The Best Coffee Shops in Studio City

By Kendra Fuchs

Every neighborhood in LA has its coffee culture, but Studio City’s is a little different. This stretch of Ventura Boulevard and Tujunga Village has quietly become one of the best pockets for independent cafés in the entire Valley — not just Starbucks-and-go, but places with actual character where you’ll see the same regulars every Saturday morning.

As someone who has spent years doing business in this neighborhood — showing homes, meeting clients, walking these streets — I have some very strong opinions about where to get your morning coffee in Studio City. Here’s the honest list.

Yala Coffee — The Neighborhood Obsession

Yala is the newest place on this list and already one of the most beloved. Opened in summer 2024 by husband-and-wife owners Zain and Marissa Shammas, Yala brings Middle Eastern coffee culture to Studio City in a way that feels completely genuine. The minimalist interior features earthy walls and a woven fabric front counter — it’s intimate, warm, and intentional.

The signature drink is sand-brewed coffee with cardamom cream and a sugar rim, and yes, it is actually brewed in hot sand right behind the counter. The orange blossom oat latte has developed a devoted following. Seats are limited, so timing matters — but the experience is unlike anything else in the Valley. Yala was ranked among the most-loved cafés in Los Angeles by Corner, a local discovery platform, within months of opening.

Aroma Coffee & Tea — The Classic

If Yala is the exciting new addition, Aroma is the institution. Housed in a converted private home in Tujunga Village, Aroma is one of those places that’s been around long enough to have real history but never feels dated. The library-like interior, with books and cozy seating, makes it ideal for a long meeting or a quiet afternoon read. The back patio is one of the better outdoor café spaces in Studio City.

Order the cappuccino and get a slice of peanut butter and chocolate cake from the glass case. There’s always something there worth eating. Weekend mornings get crowded — arrive early or embrace the wait.

Alfred Coffee — The Industry Standard

For nearly a decade Alfred Coffee has been Studio City’s default coffee shop, and for good reason. Located on Ventura Place with its instantly recognizable “But First, Coffee” branding, Alfred is polished, reliable, and genuinely good. The vanilla syrup espresso blend is the most-ordered item, and the order-ahead feature on their app is useful when you’re between showings.

Alfred skews toward a younger entertainment-industry crowd, but it’s welcoming to everyone. If you need a quick, dependable espresso drink in the neighborhood, this is the safe bet.

Whata Peach — For Breakfast

Not strictly a coffee shop — more of a breakfast café — but Whata Peach earns a mention because the coffee is genuinely good and the food is even better. The avocado toast, egg plates, and smoothies have built a loyal local following. The condensed milk latte keeps people coming back. It’s affordable, family-owned, and has the kind of consistent warmth that makes it a real neighborhood spot rather than just a stop on the way to work.

Bluestone Lane — Australian Vibes in the Silver Triangle

Bluestone Lane brings an Australian approach to coffee — think flat whites, excellent milk texture, and serious attention to the espresso. Located in the Silver Triangle, the space is bright, geometric, and features a lovely outdoor patio with blue umbrellas. It’s a stronger choice for a business meeting or a late-morning sit-down than a quick in-and-out visit.

One More Worth Knowing: Philz Coffee on Ventura

Philz doesn’t follow the standard espresso model — every cup is hand-crafted and customers choose from a wide selection of custom blends. It’s slower and more deliberate than other spots on this list, which is either a feature or a drawback depending on your morning. For someone who wants to talk through a real estate question over a truly thoughtful cup of coffee, Philz is the right choice.

The Bottom Line

Studio City has the best independent coffee scene in the Valley right now. Yala for something genuinely novel, Aroma for a classic neighborhood experience, Alfred for reliability, and Whata Peach if you’re staying for breakfast. Any of them will make your morning better.
